Shielding Effectiveness Testing
Unclassified
On paper, shielding effectiveness tests appear to be fairly simple.
This is not so when you consider the following:
The testing environment is most often that of a
construction site.
A shielded enclosure rarely passes the first time, and the
tester is often called upon to help locate and fix "leaks."
The testing can pose hazards to people and
equipment. The strong electromagnetic fields that are
generated can cause cataracts or stop a pacemaker. This
course fills a long-standing and unfilled need in the
shielding industry: Formal training for shielding
effectiveness testers.
OBJECTIVE
This course covers the technical and safety procedures involved
in testing shielded enclosures. It reviews the most common
government testing standards as well as techniques for locating
and eliminating electromagnetic leaks. It provides practical
advice on the selection and care of test equipment in the
construction site environment, which is often the venue of
shielding effectiveness tests. Students will possess the ability to
perform shielding effectiveness tests and to locate leaks in a
shielded enclosure. They will have the knowledge necessary to
make rational and intelligent decisions regarding the selection and
care of test equipment to be used in testing electromagnetically
shielded enclosures.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is technical in nature, but extensive technical
training or experience is not required. Anyone in government or
industry whose responsibilities involve the testing, installation or
management of shielded enclosures can benefit.
